Only July 23rd, Rev. Daybree’s lesson was “The 3 Faces of God – Part 3”
The three faces of God are simply three ways we approach God. 1-2-3.
1st person – the God within, “as”.
2nd person – God as “thou”, the Holy Other, speaking “to” God.
3rd person – speaking “about” God, separate and apart, reflection about the Divine.
Jesus, our Way-shower, spoke in all three; as, to, and about God.
The 1st “Face” of God, the speaking of Spirit in the 1st person, acknowledging the Spirit within, “as us” is the world of New Thought. This is the understanding of the great “I AM”, the way of affirmative prayer and of meditation. We open ourselves to the inner divine. Unity and Buddhism focuses on the 1st Face of God, the inner face of God, God as our inner true self.
Jesus talked “as” God in the mystical Gospels of John and Thomas. “Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does His works.” – John 14:10 In Unity, we affirm that Spirit is closer than our hands and feet, closer than our breath. We hold the realization that we are one with God and with one another.
This Sunday, we probe the world of the great “I AM”, the practice of meditation, and the home of mysticism.
